Safeguarding and Caring for our Children

Safeguarding

Waddingham Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The school has staff development for educators available to all staff and they are also put through relevant training courses. We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.

We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff are trained in Child Protection, and children are made aware of the adults they can talk to if they have any concerns. Staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Parents should be aware that the school is required to take any reasonable action to safeguard it's children. In cases where the school has reason to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill-treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse, the Head Teacher is obliged to follow the Child Protection procedures established by the Lincolnshire County Council/ North Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire/North Lincolnshire Children’s Safeguarding Board and inform Children’s Services of the concern.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Mrs J Richards and Mrs L Wood is our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSL),  Chris Jones is our governor for safeguarding.

The Designated teacher for Children in care and previously Looked After Children (LAC) is Mrs J Richards.

Care of Children

We aim to offer a secure and encouraging environment where children’s moral, cultural and spiritual development is enhanced through delivery of the curriculum in general and through our PSHE programme in particular.

With the exception of break and lunchtime, each member of staff is responsible for the care of children in their class. Members of staff share responsibility for the care of children at break times. At lunchtimes the Midday Supervisors, together with the Headteacher, take responsibility for the children’s welfare. When accidents occur they are dealt with by a member of the school staff in the first instance. If further action is required parents will be contacted. Should you have any worries or concerns about your child in school you should contact your child’s teacher in the first instance. The Head Teacher is also available (by prior arrangement if possible) to discuss any more serious concerns.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

As a school, we are part of the operation encompass scheme which is run by the police.
